Traditional Crochet with a Twist of Modern!

Interview with crafter Mari Martin

I don't know about you but I LOVE Mari's crochet!

A Basket of Hearts: Tell us about yourself - my name is Mari, I was born in Venezuela, but now I’m living in Madrid with my children. While I have a Bachelors degree in of Computer Science, in my free time I also love to do crafts - crochet is my favorite because my maternal grandma was an expert at this craft and created wonderful crocheted designs. I would spend hours watching my grandma while she was doing crochet, so one day I started doing it myself. I am lucky to have inherited her love for crafting. I am now designing and creating beautiful things for the home! - I love having a decorated and cute table for that special time that is the mealtime; it is a wonderful moment to share with loved ones, and friends!

A Basket of Hearts: What's exciting about your creative work? Well what's most interesting about my creative work is that I think up a design, I make it in my mind and after that, I make it in the real life.  It's my greatest satisfaction getting wonderful comments from people.

A Basket of Hearts: What are your sources of inspiration? My best inspiration is nature, I always find nice things to make from nature - it is so easy to create new things… just watch nature, and you will have new ideas!

A Basket of Hearts: What tools and techniques do you routinely use? My technique is traditional crochet, the technique used by grandmothers, but for the style of my works I like to use bright and cheerful colors, so our table is always beautiful!

A Basket of Hearts: Are you currently working on a particular project? Yes, I am currently expanding my creations with new models, I want to make place mats for dishes and bottles to match  the coasters and other table pieces. I love to see a table decorated and adorned!

A Basket of Hearts: Any important tips and tricks you can share or anything else you'd like to share as a crafter? I'd like to tell everyone who makes crafts to pay particular attention to the final details; it's the final touch that makes your work different - the work should be neat from every side when you look at it.

A Basket of Hearts: What are your future aspirations and goals? My biggest goal now is to increase the number of items by creating new original and unique crafts for my Etsy online store.
